Ronn Calderon aka Triplet was born from the street roughness that is ElSalvador, a roughness that found its way into all of Triplet's beats.Having lived in Boston for some years before settling in Toronto, That KidTrip had talent for all things visual, family and friends were convincedthat he would one day become an artist of some form. Indeed, he did end upbeing a professional designer and art director. But the love for graphicswere always overshadowed by the obsession of making tunes.
Triplet's musical journey began at age 14, when he and a friend started aband called Stymiee. Somewhere in between Massive Attack and Faith NoMore, folks just weren't ready. In fact, it seemed that some of the bandmembers themselves didn't understand what the hell was going on. All thewhile Ronn had started messing around with some electronica, which addedto the confusion. After 5 years of gigging, some touring and lots ofsongwriting, the band could no longer evolve at the same speed.Frustrated, Ronn disbanded the group and went solo. This was the truebirth of Triplet as we know him.
The first post-Stymiee creations were bass heavy breakbeats, alreadylayered with the signature Triplet moodiness that haunts almost all of histracks. A few years or so later, he met up with Suges and Sigg Shore(formerly known as Hnicx), producers that he respected and togetherstarted up Gemma Records. As the compositions progressed, Triplet began tohone in on the sound he had been trying to achieve for all these years. The music is always fresh, as Trip looks at every day as an opportunityfor innovation, and considers life a constant work in progress.
