DJ Hali received minor notoriety in 1995 when his project ATD became arguably the world's first music project to receive a recording contract via the Internet, as published in Eye Magazine. He went on to produce & engineer numerous underground releases including "Hypocrisy" which garnered a number 1 spot on college radio dance charts in that same year. In 1998, he received recognition for his music production and was awarded 'Editor's Pick' in Future Music magazine and was showcased on their monthly compilation CD. He was also selected to appear on other compilations including several R.M.I.'s Mind and Body, Furnace Records, and Minus Habens and has built a discography on electronic dance labels such as Music Research Germany, Zoth Ommog, Hard Records Denmark, Cleopatra, Silent Records and Nice + Smooth Records.
As an avid collector of underground dance music since the mid 80s, Hali didn't take DJing seriously until 1998 when he was offered his first Friday night residency in a trendy Queen West cafe in Toronto. Since then, he has worked his magic in many of Toronto's reputable underground clubs & lounges and currently holds residency at Footwork's popular Robsoul nights. Notable residencies also include stints at Turbo Nighclub during their Saturday nights called 'Toronto Housing Project', The Living Room for their legendary 'Hard & Soul Sundays', anonymously at the Element Bar during A Night Without A Name, and also NASA for 4 years of it's popular Friday nights called 'Ground Control'.
As his unique sound became increasingly more popular, Hali took his plate-spinning acrobatics across Canada, US & Europe. He performed repeatedly at the OM Festival, Montreal's Soulmeka, Toronto Jazz Festival and also many Promise parties, as well as performing at events such as Fukhouse, Hustlin', Garage 416, Harvest Festival and jojoflores's Therapy. He has moved crowded dancefloors all across the country including Vancouver, Calgary, London, Guelph, Kingston, to Montreal. Abroad, DJ Hali has played 4 years of afterparties during Detroit Electronic Music Festivals, DJ tours throughout Germany, at warehouse parties in Detroit & Chicago, and repeat performances in NYC including several Grammy Awards afterparties.
As well as being a music producer and a nightclub DJ, Hali also promotes underground electronic dance music to the public. He is the founder of the established Deep House event promotion company Poundhouse and also the founder & DJ of Netmusique.com's award-winning Housemusique netradio station. He is known for his smooth 'on-air personality' and has received international attention with his acclaimed radioshow 'Cold Tea' every Thursday night at 8pm EST on Netmusique. Beyond that, he has made many radio appearances including Toronto's CIUT 89.5 FM, Windsor's CJAM 91.5 FM, 1groove.com and also televised performances on CBC, Muchmusic, Discovery Channel, and the Life Network.
