Born somewhere in the Canadian wilderness to renegade hippies from Detroit and raised by a pack of feral wolves in the suburban wasteland of the 313, Dylan Joseph has never been one to bring home to mother. Variety being "the spice of life", he has been open to musical inspiration and influences of all kinds and too numerous to mention.

His appreciation for stripped-down, primal, rythmically-based music began in utero with the sound of a steady heartbeat. As a youngster, his clan was one in which music was not just a part of life but a way of living. His father was (and still is) a musican and instrument maker and he was immersed in the folk music of his ancestral tribe: from Bluegrass to Black Sabbath and The MC5.

His parents - revolutionaries eager to escape the social and political absurdities of their homeland - also brought with them the music that would span the cultural divide that had mounted during the late 1960's was being crossed during the early 1970's: Jazz, as personified by Coltraine and Sun Ra. Jimi Hendrix. And the social and creative movement of Motown.

Living as a gypsy with strong ties to both Canada and the United States, much about his past remains shrouded in mystery. There were early sightings at pagan bonfire gatherings in caverns miles beneath the city of Warren, MI. At hallowed venues such as The Greystone and St. Andrew's Hall in Detroit . At dancehalls and juke-joints known as City Club and The Shelter.

After moving to Toronto in the early nineties, Dylan returned to tha DET for a fateful evening in the Fall of 1992. That night, in a building known as the Packard in the post-riot wasteland of Detroit, life changed irreversibly. "Heaven and Hell", was the point of no return and Techno had infused itself into his soul.

Although he is still as much musical nomad at heart, Dylan maintains focus on the balance between exploring new elements in sound and rhythmically-driven music that some might call Techno. but "for those that know", all music comes from the same root. As a part of the BEATS.TO crew, it's an honour to be a part of the growth and evolution in the company of friends and kindred spirits.
