Amy Katz and Kate Cassidy's cozy College Street locale 52 Inc. -- named in honour of women forming 52 per cent of the population -- gleefully confounded the neighbourhood when it opened in '95. Cafe, club, gallery and clothing boutique, 52 Inc. became a funky, feminist-flavoured hangout that encourages ethical consumption, local creators and the art of having a good time. "The motivation has been to create a space the community could interact with -- hang art, spin music and so on," says Katz. "What's fun is that the atmosphere changes from night to night." It also changes when they hold one of their parties. The first, the 1.5 Party, celebrated a year-and-a-half of 52 Inc., drawing a large,
